Our Curriculum
When we focus on the social and emotional aspect of working together on a science, math, literacy activity, we create a balanced experience that helps children in all aspects of development” – Ellen Booth Church.
Respecting a child’s strengths and weaknesses, Teaching Learning Consultancy employs a Psychoeducational approach to placement within our subject groups, meeting each student where they are currently at, versus placing undue anxiety from demand of ‘where they should be’.
Our children are divided into three smaller groups for subject presentations, namely our Introduction-, Application- and Extension Groups. This guarantees not only individual attention within the social dynamic of a group, but also ensures a child is scaffolded for success in each step of their journey of progress.
Daily, our students enjoy Circle Time (Introduction Group only), Morning Discussion (Application and Extension Groups only), Literacy, Numeracy and Remedial Lessons. Life Skills lessons, once a week, focuses on incorporating practical and hands-on experience in mastery of crucial self-help life skills.
Interactive and integrated learning is supported with our creative, theme-based learning opportunities. Selected themes allow students to learn more about themselves, their families, their communities and the world at large. All our students are thus exposed and empowered with the knowledge needed to successfully navigate the social world.
Our customized Numeracy and Literacy curricula are created from a developmental platform that allows academic challenge to our children, while keeping the particular learning style and modalities of special learners in mind. These subjects enjoy dynamic presentation to include our sensory experiences, thus enhancing attention, retention and performance.
Remedial Lessons (Application and Extension Groups, only) seek to provide the consistent practice or maintenance of vital aspects of learning that most children with ASD find difficult, and that cannot be adequately addressed within the other subject areas. These lessons include the focus on Auditory and Visual Discrimination and Processing, Language Enrichment, Theory of Mind, Emotional Regulation and Mindfulness as well as Social Games.
